Michael Chabala

Founder of Sphere and 9 year MLS veteran

Michael Chabala is a 9 year, former Major League Soccer player (Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers & DC United) and current founder of Sphere, a soccer-inspired fitness concept modeled after all aspects of what it takes to be a complete player using only a sphere. Sphere is designed to compete in the boutique fitness space among giants like SoulCycle, Barry’s Bootcamp, Crossfit, The Bar Method and Orange Theory. The first of its kind, Sphere is a team-inspired workout but individually focused to do more with a sphere than just score goals. With its electric atmosphere and rock star coaching, Sphere brings a new alternative kick to fitness.

Michael entered Major League Soccer in 2006 with the Houston Dynamo where he went on to win back to back MLS Cup Championships before being traded to Portland then DC and back to Houston in 2013. When he prematurely exited the league in 2014, he sought a way to share his love for the game with the Houston community and thus created Sphere. The 45-minute classes are each designed to reflect a different aspect of the game comprised of soccer moves & techniques – players run, kick and play while utilizing the sideline to work rather than rest.

Most recently, he launched a partnership with the Four Seasons Hotel Houston and created two exclusive classes called POWA and 45. Each session, led by a professional soccer player, uses a ball to do more than just score goals, alternating between interval treadmill routines and strength training with a medicine ball.
